Summer Camp
During the month of August we offer four summer camps from 8:30 - 11:15. For 2015 the camps will be:
Aug 3 - 6 Little Campers
Camping in the classroom. Bringing as much of nature into the classroom as we can, we’ll talk about what we need to survive (food, water, shelter) and our sources for these necessities. We’ll also talk about the plants and animals one might encounter camping in Michigan. Fun activities typically associated with camping will work their way into our classroom as well.
Aug 10 - 13 A Week of Seuss
From the The Cat in the Hat, to One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish, Dr. Seuss has written some wonderful children’s books that we’re all familiar with. We’ll spend a week in the whimsical world of Seuss exploring his stories and going beyond the words on the page. The books of Dr. Seuss lend themselves to all sorts of fun adventures in the classroom.
Aug 17 - 20 Our Five Senses
Everything we know about the world around us comes to us through one or more of our five senses. This week will be spent developing a deeper understanding of how information about our world comes to us through our senses and then gets assembled into knowledge. We will do fun activities that isolate our senses as we discuss what we know about our world through our senses.
Aug 25 - 29 Kids in the Kitchen
In this week of camp we will learn how to follow a recipe, measure ingredients, and prepare delicious and healthy food. Working in the kitchen is a practical life skill that children can begin to take pride in from a very young age. Here, we will focus on a dish each day that the children can create and our week will culminate in preparing a lunch to serve to you on the final day.
